Mount Jackson United Methodist Church
The emblem for the United Methodist Women (located on the right side of this page)
symbolizes our continuous growth and renewal. It contains the cross and flame which
symbolizes the Holy Spirit. The cross and flame dates back to the days of Christ and
Pentecost. Each evokes images of sacrifice, witness, and service. The shape of the
emblem is also symbolic fluid and free flowing, which suggests change and mobility. As
has been our heritage - The United Methodist Women has been at the forefront of
movements for a change. The cross, flame and the individual with her abilities and
opportunity are all a part of the 20th Century UNITED METHODIST WOMEN.
The Organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose
purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus
Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission
through participation in the global ministries of the church. To help fulfill this PURPOSE,
the organized unit shall help women:
1. To enable broad participation of varying interest, ages, ethnic groups and life-styles.
2. To study and interpret in words and action the revolutionary message of the gospel.
3. To discover, confront, and respond to the issues of the day.
4. To expend concepts of mission and become significantly involved in global ministries of
the church.
5. To work actively and openly for elimination of injustice and liberation of oppressed
peoples.
6. To become a community in mission.
