Mount Jackson United Methodist Church
Methodist Men
History
On Friday, November 16, 1963, men from Mt. Jackson and Quicksburg
Churches met to organize a United Methodist Men (UMM). Jack Sperry,
Raymond Tampkin, District Lay leader, and other men from Mt. Crawford,
Edinburg and Tom's Brook gave brief talks on United Methodist Men.

The original Charter was presented to Graham Stoneburner, the first President,
on Thursday, January 23, 1964, by Raymond Tampkin. There were Thirty-one
charter members of which One is still active today. Our name at the time of
organization was The Mt. Jackson Methodist Men. A new Charter was issued
and our name was changed to Mt. Jackson United Methodist Men when the
Evangelical United Brethren and Methodist Churches united in 1968.

The purpose of the Methodist Men is:
* To provide Christian fellowship
* To assist our Church and it's members in any way possible
* To assist the community and district Church projects and the Church universal

Our Methodist Men are well known and one of the most active units in the
Harrisonburg district. Our group attends most district events and supports all
district projects. The UMM held their first pancake and sausage dinner in 1964.
This annual event still continues today. The UMM meet the third Wednesday of
